3D Printing – Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)

About the project

A fused deposition modeling (FDM) machine melts a plastic wire and extrudes it through a nozzle. The molten material is applied to a build platform where it cools and cures. The component is built up by applying the material layer by layer.
FDM needs a support structure that attaches the components to the build platform and supports overhangs. This is built by a second nozzle in another material, which can be easily removed. Several parts can be produced simultaneously, as long as they are all attached to the build platform.
Fused deposition modeling works with thermoplastic material e.g. ABS or PC. The parts are durable (stable over time) and have good mechanical properties in standard colors. Heat resistant material, eco friendly as well as biocompatible material for up to 24 hours bone/skin contact is available.
